Wiza Ng’ambi, PhD
Wiza Ng’ambi is an economist with over ten years of professional work experience at global, regional, and national levels with additional experience in academia as a lecturer and researcher. He served as a Trade Finance Specialist in the Economic Research and Statistics Division at the World Trade Organization in Geneva, Switzerland in 2024. Prior to this, he served as a Trade Finance Consultant at the World Bank Group in Washington, DC, United States of America, and before that served in the Institute for Training and Technical Cooperation at the World Trade Organization in Geneva. Prior to joining international development organisations, he spent over eight years in Southern Africa and Zambia, serving in numerous senior management and analyst roles in such institutions as Zambia Statistics Agency, Innovations for Poverty Action, Industrial Development Corporation, Lusaka Provincial Health Office/Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Food Reserve Agency and Citizens Economic Empowerment Commission, along with lecturing at higher education institutions such as the University of Zambia.
Wiza holds a Doctor of Philosophy degree at the nexus of development economics, manufacturing development and finance, along with a Master of Arts in Economics and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics with Statistics, all from the University of Zambia. He also holds numerous short course qualifications and has proficiency in English, French and Spanish, and three Zambian languages namely, Bemba, Nyanja and Tonga.
Survey Management, Impact Evaluation, Research and Monitoring & Evaluation Experience:
Innovations for Poverty Action: Managed a diverse team of experts in the design & implementation of a seven million USD portfolio of poverty related research programmes across Zambia, Zimbabwe & Malawi. Sectors included: food security, climate resilience, social protection, education, poverty graduation, gender & health. Functions included: household survey data collection & analysis, research design, results-based management monitoring & evaluation, theory of change development, recruitment, data management, and reporting.
Ministry of Health (Zambia)-Centers for Disease Control & Prevention: Led over 60 staff at various levels in the design & implementation of monitoring & evaluation activities valued at about two million USD annually. Functions included; budgeting, recruitment, results-based management monitoring & evaluation, data & knowledge management, data analysis & reporting, and interagency coordination.
World Trade Organization: Led a mixed method evaluation of WTO Technical Assistance (TA) for the period 1995 – 2021, assisted in the monitoring & evaluation of various TA programmes based on the results-based management framework.
Zambia Statistics Agency: Played numerous roles in several national enterprise surveys in the collection, analysis and publication of economic data.
